Family!

My sweet twin brothers turn 23 today. Whoa...

Happy birthday, boys! We are going to Hibachi tonight to celebrate. :)  I love them so much...they are my very best friends, besides Keith. They are WAY smarter than me too...Andy (the cute one on the left) is getting his Graduate degree in Construction Science and he's gonna be a super successful engineer! Ben (the cute one on the right) is going to Graduate School to be a counselor...Presh, right. :) I made a little workstation in honor of them a few weeks ago, and totally forgot about it! It's a little play on "twins," and focuses on words that have double consonants.

It can be played as a concentration or matching pocket chart game where they decode the words with double consonants and find the matching picture card. :) There are 18 of those. Then, you can have them record them on the recording sheet or the circle map. The last sheet is just a little coloring page that would be great as Morning Work, Early Finisher, or as a final review activity. They can rainbow color the words (or whatever color you tell them) but find the double consonants and color them the same color. Cute, huh?! :) And since it reminds me of my twin brothers, it's doubl-y awesome. I think I might have already posted about this activity, but since it's their birthday, I felt it was appropriate. : )

The second activity focusing on family I jsut made last night, and I am SO excited to use it with my babies. They love word families, and it's something we work on all year in workstations. They usually can do it independently, and I see it transfer to their reading and writing! :) Each "word family" has 3 word cards, with a mom, dad, and a baby. There are 20 word families to practice with...then they can sort them into the big heart (because we L.O.V.E. our families :)), and write them on the recording sheet. I will probably only give them 5 word families at a time, because that's how many sorting maps, and how many are on each recording sheet. Plus, then they can really see/read the differences in each word family.

Head over to my store and snag these two freebies! And give your families a big hug! :)
