1. We wrapped up our poetry unit with this fun color poem! My friends did SOOO good writing them! They worked on their tear art rainbows while I worked in a small group helping them stretch their words.
Here are some of their poems.
Black tastes like nasty! Ha!
I literally cried on this one from laughing. Purple feels like I need to throw up. OMG. So hilarious.
If you can read that sweet little writing, you might be a 1st grade teacher. :) And some of their sweet little rainbows.
I love how they all did them a little differently. :)
2. We also have been studying Authority Figures (again, Ha!) I'm not sure exactly why we circled back to this, but I've tried to make it as fun as possible. We did a little Obama research that I'll be posting about next week.
I put together a little freebie pack for you with some of the printables we used! I couldn't included the ladder of authority images, because I couldn't remember where I got the pictures, ha! Click to get your copy!
3. We just started learning about Place Value. We did this little sticker activity to practice making groups of ten with a few extra. They did GREAT! And we love using stickers. :)
Here is the anchor chart we made to introduce place value.
5. We also finished up our Texas and American symbols unit. We made some murals for each one.
We also did some shared writing on our anchor charts.
My littles were a little confused about TEXAS symbols and USA symbols. Actually, we were just kind of confused about the concept of state and country. Ha. Hopefully we can keep working on this skill! But to practice our symbols, we did this little sort.
Now head over and link up! I can't wait to see everyone's 5!
Glad to hear it's not just California kids who are confused on their symbols :)

Your poetry unit looks fantastic! We start ours in a few weeks, and I am definitely going to have to use those rainbows. So happy to have found your blog - I just love reading other first grade bloggers . I'm your newest follower :)

I really like your Texas and American symbol ideas. The chart that sorts this is a great idea. But the shared writing is also a great idea. Hmm...I think I will be doing some pinning after I post this :)

Thanks so much!
DeleteGreat ideas! I've used stickers on the 100th day of school before, and I never thought about using them to make other numbers. Thank you for sharing!
