Problem Solving Practice! And a SALE!!!

So...every morning we spend about 15 minutes doing problem solving. I will post more about that later! My littles really get into it, and my district has some seriously AMAZING problem solving teachers. I can't wait to be just like them! :) I made this packet to help me get through the year. To be honest, I run out of story problems by like Day 4 of the school year. Haha! I tried writing it on the board, and having them put it in their Math Notebooks. But I actually found I got better results when I gave them a sheet to use. They knew the routine, didn't worry about copying the problem, and I could collect them everyday. Much easier to do than go through Math Journals!
I chose to make them ALL addition and subtraction to 20. I know these aren't the only ways to problem solve in primary, but it's what my babies struggle with the most. And...I figure if I can send them to 2nd grade able to ROCK any addition or subtraction story problem, they can handle multiplication and division! Each page has a space to solve, a space to write a number sentence, and a sentence frame "I shared my thinking with..." They do this every, single day. Sometimes I mix it up with Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up or Inner/Outer Circle, but usually I just let them walk around the room and share with their friends. It's a great way to get them moving in the morning, and engaged. They like to talk about Math if they can talk to their BFF! :) Each theme has a cover page. Like this. :) PERFECT for organizing in a binder!

There are 20 themes..that's right. 20! That means there are 200 story problems in this packet! Holy MOLY! All of the major holidays, plus football, birthday parties, zoo animals, puppies, kitties, winter, beach, fairy tale, and SO MUCH MORE! Here is what the pages look like.

So cute right?! And so simple! Plus, early finishers can color the little picture. The first 2 friends to comment get it for free. Can't wait to see who it is! Everyone else can head over to my TPT store and grab it! Just click any of the pictures.

And in honor of this 3 day week, I'm having a SALE! Everything is on sale 20% off. Make sure you pick up my Vowel Packs! It's $7.00, but with the sale, it's only like $5.60! Click the picture to grab that!

  2. Totally awesome, and your new blog design looks GREAT! Have you or will you blog more about your math notebooks? I'm really interested in starting math journals or math notebooks next year but have never used either before.

  3. I don't know if I have, but I definitely will. I am definitely not the best with them. I remember to use them a lot when we are introducing or practicing, but I NEVER remember to have them pull back out to reference them. That's going to be one of my goals for next year. They put all of these cool number lines, addition strategies, etc. and then we never look at them again!
