Letters in their Place!

So...I found this uber adorable poem, and promptly added it to my poem calendar for the year. :) It fit PERFECTLY in the 3rd week...I have two poems I always start the year with (First Day, First Grade and Poem in Your Pocket), and I know it's gonna be a great reminder for us! We don't have a handwriting block, so it's a simple way to incorporate it into our day. :) Here is the poem...

Every letter has it's place...
Between each word belongs a space!
Tall letters go all the way to the top!
Short letters to the middle and stop.
Falling letters drop below,
And that's how my writing should go!

So simple, but super fun! To go along with that, I made a simple sort for our Pocket chart station. The font I found doesn't let tall letters go all the way to the top..BOO! but it's still good practice. And I will just talk with them about it. Non examples, right?!? :)

  1. That is cute!

I tried this year teaching it as a house. No one goes in the attic, only certain letters can go upstairs, everyone hangs out on the first floor, and you have to have special permission to go to the basement.

I'll have to save that for next year though!
